One of history’s greatest sporting achievements - 10 Coolangatta Gold Titles.

It almost sounds unfathomable, doesn’t it?

For most of us, the honest truth would be that it probably is.

But for Race ones, Ali Day, the Coolangatta Gold has not only delivered him more than a decade of success, but a journey that has shaped his life.

Carrying his boys down the final shoot, we witnessed an emotional man; one we don’t see often.

With the commentator counting loudly 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 – 10!

Ali Day turned to face the crowd and took one final bow.

Watching on was a crowd in awe, elated by such success.

Inspired by such an incredible athlete.

Admiring such a perfect role model.

He had done it.

Was there ever any doubt?

No.

When asked to describe how he was feeling leading into such a feat, Day’s response was simple.

“Grateful,” he had said.

At the conclusion of the event, standing under the finishing arch for perhaps the final time, we witnessed the raw emotion of our gracious champion.

One who was grateful for the opportunities his life has thus far delivered.

“I have been extremely lucky for the opportunities that I’ve been presented within my career.”

Grateful for those in his corner.

“There are just so many people in my corner!”

Grateful for his family.

“It’s not me that’s made sacrifices, it’s my wife and my family that give me the opportunity to go out and do this.”

But for Ali Day, it was never about the number and always about the journey.

“It was never about the number; it was just about the journey - this race has basically shaped my life.”
