A towering figure in the world of ocean paddling, Dean Gardiner's legacy is defined not only by his exceptional nine victories at the Molokai Challenge but also by his transformative impact on the sport in Australia. In 2002, Dean played a crucial role in familiarising Australia with ocean paddling, introducing Fenn skis to the nation.
Perhaps his most enduring contribution is the founding of 'Oceanpaddler' , which quickly became Australia's premier paddling warehouse. Today Dean is a vital figure in the ocean paddling community. As the visionary founder of the Australian Ocean Racing Series (AORS), he oversees a 16-race championship that spans five Australian states, ensuring the sport continues to thrive and inspire new generations.
A Kayaking Olympian and Australian surf ski champion, Jimmy Walker is also recognised as an esteemed Australian Kayak Coach and the owner of 'My Kayak Coach' business. With a rich history in Surf Life Saving, he serves not only as an Olympic commentator but also as a life member of the North Bondi SLSC.
Jimmy oversees one of the largest kayaking school groups in the country, conducting classes four days a week. As the head of the Sports Club at North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club, his expertise is globally acknowledged and frequently sought after.
My Kayak Coach stands as a testament to his commitment to the sport, offering comprehensive training for all things paddling.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Earl Evans discovered his love for ocean paddling in 2016 when he paddled the Maui Jim Molokai Challenge, a 52-km crossing of the Ka’iwi Channel between the islands of Molokai and Oahu.
Driven by an unparalleled passion for Surf Life Saving and Ocean Paddling, Earl combines his entrepreneurial spirit - originating from his diverse business interests and his role as Co-CEO of Shaw and Partners Financial Services — with the aim of positioning Race One Surf Craft at the pinnacle of both ocean paddling and surf sports.
Earl plays a pivotal role in sponsoring, personally and at business-level, exciting racing events across the country, elevating the profile of ironman/ironwoman and ocean paddling events in Australia to new heights.
Jo Percy boasts an extensive background in Surf Life Saving spanning over three decades, encompassing both her roles as an accomplished athlete and a proficient businesswoman.
In 1991 she became the New Zealand representative for Dolphin Surf Craft, later establishing the Waterman Store, and now is a proud owner of Race One.
Throughout her illustrious career, Jo has played a pivotal role in the establishment and execution of various prestigious events such as the NZ U14 Ocean Athlete Championships, the management of the NZ National Championships, the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Surf Leagues, and the World Life Saving Championships, among numerous others. Jo's unwavering dedication to surf sports, positions her as a passionate advocate for the industry.
Mark Williams has dedicated over a decade as the Director of Surf Sports at BMD Northcliffe. A 3-time World Surf Race Champion, he also clinched titles as the former Australian and Goodwill Games Surf Race Champion.
Armed with a Bachelor of Business/Marketing degree, Mark proudly owned Dolphin Surf Craft from 2005 to 2010. His legacy in the surf world is unmatched, blending athletic prowess with business acumen.
