Zach Morris - ‘Rivalry and Mateship’

Zach Morris - ‘Rivalry and Mateship’

Zach Morris ‘ Rivalry and Mateship’

Proving that he and his skill set are electric both on and off the beach, Race Ones Zach Morris is juggling his full-time electrical apprenticeship with the earnt title of Australia’s back-to-back Open Male Board Champion.

Anchoring 5 victorious Northcliffe teams at the recent Australian Titles, doing all he can to stay ahead of his youngerbrothers, and soon to be signed off as a fully qualified sparky, Zach juggles a busy schedule, motivated by sibling rivalry and mateship.

Growing up with younger siblings, twins; Jake and Mitch chasing his every move, training results from the afternoons session are constantly delivering evening banter in the Morris household.

“We always have banter, who won at training, who was going faster on the day and whatnot,” Zach laughed.

It’s good, it’s fun and everyone gets around it!”

Pairing the laughs and the daily rivalry with the natural motivation that comes with being the eldest brother, Zach says he does all he can to ensure his ‘little’ brothers don’t get the edge over him often!

“It’s so good to actually race and train with them!” He smiled.

“But I don’t want to lose to my little brothers, especially being the eldest, it definitely motivates me to go harder so they don’t beat me!”

Alongside his twin brothers, Zach is a part of Northcliffe SLSC, well known for its performance across the board of surf sports.

This training and racing squad is where Zach, Jake and Mitch have found what Zach refers to as, a ‘brotherhood’, a group that he believes is the secret to his success.

“For us Northcliffe boys, we're a very close bunch,” He said proudly.

“We train together, away from training we hang out, pretty much every weekend, we all do a lot together, it’s like a brotherhood.”

Motivating each other, enjoying the company of one another and dominating their team events at the recent 2025 Aussies, Zach and his teammates demonstrated their brotherhood with a strong display of mateship.

“We are much like a family,” Zach said.

“We watched every single team event, it was great to get around everyone, we didn’t miss a single title won!”

When Zach spoke, it was evident that his success is driven by the company that he keeps.

That company comes in an array of forms.

Race One and the board that he personally designed with his Race One Companions.

His twin brothers, motivating, pushing and occasionally crossing the line ahead of him.

Lastly, his brotherhood; a group that ensures mateship, both on and off the beach.

They say there is no ‘I’ in team, but you can 100% count on there always being a good MATE.
