The ‘earnt’ Fairytale

Arms up, smile beaming, a glisten in her emotional eyes.

Race One’s Georgia Fitzsimmons has crossed the finish line for the final time.

A fairytale finish for a career that saw endless sacrifice, hard work and determination.

Georgia Fitz, 4 x Australian Ironwoman Champion.

Australia’s greatest Ironwoman.

My whole career has been a fairytale,” Georgia spoke.

“Not just the past weekend, not the past year, not just the Shannon, my entire career has been a fairytale.

A perfect end to her career.

A poetic finish for our Ironwoman.

Poetic it was, but it didn’t happen overnight.

“It has been years and years and years of hard work, sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears,” she said.

Training day after day, week after week. Year after year.

Georgia Fitz got the result she had worked hard for.

The result she had sacrificed for.

The result, she had earnt.

I want to make that a little more known,” she said.

“Just how hard it is, and how hard it is to get that fairytale finish. It’s rare to get, and I was not expecting it in anyway, shape or form.”

Despite her expectations, we at Race One were not surprised by the result.

Were you? We doubt it.

An Ironwoman career full of success, challenge and everything in between, Georgias greatest learning from our sport is resilience.

When someone asks me what my biggest lesson has been, the word resilience definitely comes to mind, especially in Surf Lifesaving,” she said confidently.

This sport is tough!

It’s gruelling, it can be heartbreaking, but there can also be those magical moments!”

And the most magical moment of all, a fourth AustralianIronwoman Title.

Winning that fourth Ironwoman Title is going to be hard to beat!” An elated Georgia spoke.

To be the only woman in history to win four is just amazing, something that I could have never even dreamt of thatfeeling will stay with me forever!”

Walking off the beach for the final time in her Fitz cossie, her Race One craft under the arms of her countless supporters, a lifetime of memories, countless accolades attained and a smile that beamed from ear to ear, Australia’s greatestIronwoman will shut one chapter, and begin another with the same work ethic she has carried throughout her incredible career.

“The harder you work, the luckier you'll get.”
